Feed Issues

I’ve had enough of supporting multiple feed types, so I’ve said “screw it”. I mean I had 0.91 as index.xml, 1.0 as index.rdf, 2.0 as index2.rdf, and ATOM as… I don’t know what ATOM is because I haven’t publicized it. I think it’s atom.xml.

To subscribe to this blog via RSS, please use this link: https://www.randyrants.com/index.xml in the future.

I’ve also left out the old files with “stubs” telling you where to find the new link, but it’s hard to say how well that will get picked up by Feed services: right now, NewsGator is only offering me really old articles via index.xml so it could take a few days for it to properly pick up all the changes…

Blah.

  1. Just in FYI, your feed seems to work just fine with Konfabulator’s (Yahoo widget engine) newsticker. And I know this is a bit off topic, but I’ve hear rummors MS is developing Widgets for Vista, any light you can shine on this?

  2. Basically, I just went to RSS 2.0 for the feed… when I started the RSS game they only had 0.9x and 1.0 was a draft which is why 0.91 got the .XML extension. Annoyed me after all this time, so I said screw it. Worked with FeedDemon and said whoohoo!

On the Vista Sidebar project, the most light I can shed is: http://microsoftgadgets.com/Blogs/gadgetnews/archive/2006/02/22/3111.aspx

  3. Hmmm. Might do something similar with the feeds. Vaguely annoying at maintaining all the templates — and at the differences that ought not to make a difference. I mean — for the purposes of my blog — do I really need all of those? Do my readers? I think not.

  4. Doubtful. You should be OK with RSS 2.0. I never had a request for ATOM either, which is why I didn’t pop it up on a menu item… I say screw it and drop to one :)
