  1. Should work isn’t enough in today’s techno-world. Think about it: if “just working” was the brass ring of acceptance, then the first generations of iPods would have been “it”. Sure, their price would be less and their storage more, but would there be the click wheel (and touch wheel before that) with a color screen and support for videos and pictures?

True, I have an iPod. In fact, I have two. My nano’s fate is secure: I used that in the gym because it has no moving parts and it’s small enough to be convenient without being “too small”. The other iPod, the 5th generation iPod is a nifty little music player. Honest, it is.

But when I want to watch videos on the go, I use my PSP. My 1GB PSP. Why? The PSP screen is 4.3 inches; the iPod is about 2 inches (at least for Gen 5); the Zune (per the press release, natch!) 3 inches. Is it “enough”? Maybe. If I can get rid of two devices for one… well, I sorta like that idea. Especially since I can get a lot more video on a 30GB drive than I can onto a 1GB Memory Stick.

Time’ll tell… I still haven’t punked around with the Gen 5.5 release of the iPod either (looks like that has a 2.5 inch screen) but for now, I’ll beta test the Zune out a bit :)
