  1. I’m not sure if you’re on the team that worked on it or not, but either way I think that’s a bit presumptuous.

The price point alone is enough to cause Nintendo not to worry.

Secondly it seems quite buggy given the demonstration, and I would expect this sort of system to remain so.

There are simply too many variables in a typical user’s home environment (background color, other moving objects such as pets etc) for a system such as this to work well.

Granted this is just my (a nobody) opinion, just doesn’t seem like it’s going to amount to much.

  2. Nope, not my team, but I have to question your comments:

    – The price of an Xbox 360 Arcade is less than the Wii. So how is the price point an issue? And before you speculate, no one knows how much the final product Project Natal is driving will cost. I will say that if you want four play action on the Wii you need three Wii-motes and thee Nunchucks… Natal is slated to support 4-at a time.

    – Second, I have been much closer to the hardware than you have so maybe I’m biased into asking “what exactly was buggy?” I’ve seen a number of demos in various games/settings and they’ve all solid – I didn’t see anything that stood out as buggy today.

    – As to the variables, I guess we’ll say “We’ll see” but remember: everyone said the Wii wasn’t possible for similar reasons :)

One thing that I will say is that I was pretty skeptical when I heard about the project. I was sold after seeing the product in action in real time. Time will tell.

  3. All good points.

The buggy stuff I saw was mostly jittery/jumpy motion. Most notably when the guy tried to “show the bottom of his foot” and the avatar got all twisted and the leg went through the body.

Either way, you are correct, only time will tell.

The system has some rather large obstacles to overcome which, if it does, will be pretty impressive. That being said, I’ve become somewhat less skeptical since yesterday after watching some more of the videos although, especially the promotional pieces, they seem a bit fake and best-case-scenario to me at this point.

  4. Ah, the Avatar overhead – forgot about the intro. Without saying much, I would put more weight in what was seen with the game demos than the dancing foot showing Avatar… but that’s just me :)
