Home Alone… YES!

Needed a night away from everything, so I took one, even if it is a Saturday night. The Yankees won their game today. A week’s vacation is about to begin. I went out to lunch with my sister and my mom. Had the Jeep out in picture perfect summertime weather. I’m out of beer in the fridge, but I’ve still got some Diet Coke left. Went to a GeekFest this morning. Spent the night ensconced in the house and currently watching PCU on cable. *w00t*

The GeekFest made me think that I want an external Sony DVD/CD burner. It supports FireWire and USB-2. It’s also the drive that supports DVD+R/RW DVD-R/RW CD-RW CD-R and some other disc formats – the feature list looks like an eye chart. My PC supports both USB-2 and FireWire; my to-be-delivered iBook supports FireWire. The idea is that I get one external burner and I can use it for both platforms. Granted the drive won’t be seen by iDVD [thanks to Steve for that tidbit] but Toast will see it so it’s all good.

Oh. By the way. Bought a used 500MHz iBook on Friday via eBay – should be here this week – but I didn’t think to talk about it until I got it into my hands… eBay has been causing me issues lately and I don’t want to get my hopes up, but I think it’ll be here this week. This SnowBook was cheaper than the older 466MHz coloured clamshell iBook, but what can ya do? Also the 667 TiBook is still way too expensive too – sorta scary how Apples keep their value over the years. Anyway, on the DVD drive, the show made me want one, but I opted to wait a while. $345 seemed pricy still – I’d like to see it at about $250 (which the internal is close to.)

Lunch with my Mom and sister was funny. While listening to a Creed song (With Arms Wide Open) my mother mentioned that the lead singer sounded like a younger Kenny Rogers. I had never heard that particular analogy and felt I had to share it. My sister, before we left for lunch, mentioned that this DVD that she’s been watching for a cardio workout and said that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with it. She mentioned something about push-ups… now I’ve been doing my own bit of work every morning and I’m to 60 push-ups, every other day… my sister tells me that “you put your legs on a chair when you do your push-ups”… I have to admit it: it does work your arms much more than a regular push-up, but after I did 10 of them, she made me stop and threw me outta her house. I guess I did’m right as she was pissed off!

The vacation is some very welcomed time off, but it’s a mandatory vacation. My place is closing down for a week and it’s mostly unpaid… *joy* Of course, I got asked twice already if I “had any plans” this week. Um, OK. You tell us all that only certain people will be kept at work while “closed” and I wasn’t one of them – that means I’m making plans for the week! My bosses seemed pissed by my unwillingness to not only work for free but for not wanting to change my own personal plans for “the good of the company”… I would do that… in fact I have done exactly that… I haven’t had one vacation with this place in the 6.5 years that I’ve been there, where I haven’t been bother by at least 5 emails and/or calls a day. It never fails – I take a vacation and some disaster happens… I change my schedule and do the work only to find out that the deadline was fictitious. So, I’m not changing a thing this time – some how this company even fucks up a closing!

Yes… I needed some downtime. Too many things going on at once! And of course, I only got one chapter proofread tonight because I was distracted by cable… *sigh* Thankfully I have two other people working on it as well… they will help save my ass.

Speaking of ass, I’m sure mine got a little larger feasting on some Korean ice cream [yum!] that I’ve horded in my freezer for the majority of this week!
