Panic At The Disco

I’m not searching for a Wii any more. After searching for 36 hours, not only am I sick of hearing “no” but I think I’m about to get broadsided by a much larger purchase or two.

Even for me there are limits to what I can or I’m willing do for the sake of gaming.

The good news: I don’t think my Sony receiver is defective, after all.

The bad news: I think my Bose speaker system is on the fritz.

Panic. Like that “Is there a bathroom near by” ewwy feeling is currently swirling around in my stomach type panic. Or as I like to think of it: “Fuuuuuuuuk”.

Ah well.

I hooked up my old receiver, since I had a nice good long run without any issues with that good ol’ boy. With that hooked up again, I ran for a night without any issues. Tonight, while playing Gears of War – the last play before I pack the 360 for it’s repair run – I noticed that I couldn’t hear Dom talking. Oh, how I hate you Dom. Anyway, I said “whoa… I wonder if… oh, God, no” and hit the Test Tone on the receiver. Sure enough: the Center channel was dead. Before I could poke at all the wires, I noticed the subwoofer was humming… that’s disconcerting. So I unplugged the subwoofer and plugged it back in: sound returned to the center channel. Put on a TV show – at some point I heard the bass drop off a regular TV show… that leaves me to blame:

– the center channel speaker – not likely, since the subwoofer was dropping out as well.

– the wires – after four years and two moves, it could simply be a set of worn wires… I’m going to call the local Bose store and see what they say about that.

– the powered subwoofer – sadly, I’m thinking it’s this piece of the puzzle… long since out of the general warranty but possibly still covered by the limited warranty… again, another ping to Bose for that one – I have no idea… what I do know is that the most recent revision of this system (Series IV; I have a III) is retailing for $900 – I know a repair job will not be cheap.

Scary shit.

On top of that, my new couch is stateside and it’s early. Like two months early, I think. After that phone call today, I was like WHOA because a) I still have my current furniture and b) I might need a new coffee table (unless I prop my feet on a Wii box).

Lets recap my current scoreboard:

– My T60p is still getting hotter than I like it to be, so that’s a concern; at least it’s got another 2.5 years of warranty left

– My 360 is going in for repair on the last week of it’s warranty

– My Sony receiver is boxed and ready to go in for repair – that too is under warranty – but I might not send that in now

– New couch, possibly new coffee table – either way I’ve still got my current furniture, so my dining room is about to get crowded

– A faulty Bose speaker system that is probably out of warranty and way too expensive to simply replace without investigation

Anyone want to place a bet that the bulb on my TV will blow in about six days? Even money bet – people that know me won’t even consider taking the bet, unless they could get action for three days. Honest. I know I’m whining, but after all, it’s my blog.

Right now, there’s about 12 different sirens going off around my house – I fear that someone is having a worse night than me…

Either way, I foresee a very analog December in my future.
