Hm – NBA Edition

MSN: Oprah latest entertainer interesting in buying Clippers

Hm. How long until people look past the shock of Sterlings’ comments and realize that his girlfriend secretly recorded a private conversation that landed in the hands of TMZ – leaked? stolen? paid for? – and resulted in the possibility of a NBA team that is currently good enough to be in the playoffs?

Since NBA teams just don’t become available for sale everyday – unless they are from Seattle – I’m very, very close to calling shenanigans on this whole thing.

In fact, some other people are looking past the splash of the headline and asking other questions, also from MSN:

Mark Cuban, owner of the NBA’s Mavericks, was among the few.

“In this country, people are allowed to be morons,” Cuban said before the ban was announced. “They’re allowed to be stupid. They’re allowed to think idiotic thoughts.”

“But regardless of your background, regardless of the history they have, if we’re taking something somebody said in their home and we’re trying to turn it into something that leads to you being forced to divest property in any way, shape or form, that’s not the United States of America. I don’t want to be part of that,” he said.

Add to this the fact that there’s a lawsuit going on between Sterlings’ wife and the girlfriend – something about how the gf made off with a duplex – and some other stuff, I don’t know what to think…

I think that once his opinions/feelings became public that he’s been handed a fair and just punishment by the NBA – what else could their commissioner do? – and that he’s not going to go quietly, but I’m really developing the opinion that there’s a prime mover of this whole thing… it felt like the gf was almost reading from a script of a list of leading questions to ask and Sterlings had diarrhea of the mouth for the whole conversation, obviously not realizing he was being recorded, but it’s amazing these are his inner most thoughts/feelings when he’s had long term relationships with so many players in the league.

Much like the trials of Knox and Simpson, this is going to be an ongoing story for some time to come only this one is in the public court of opinion.
