SharpMT and Pocket SharpMT 2.3 – Beta 1

Only one thing added for this release, but it’s been requested: proxy support, for both the desktop and pocket version of SharpMT.

Both versions have the same configuration and function additions. It seems the .NET Framework supports HTTP proxy support with Basic, Digest, and NTLM authentication; the .NET Compact Framework support Basic authentication (I think). Basically, if you’re not behind a firewall that monitors port 80, you’ll never need this; if you are than you will. On the Options dialog there’s a new panel for the Proxy configuration: the proxy server name and port number along with options for authentication, if you need it. There’s also an option to turn this setting on/off, which could make life easier for people that have an aggressive firewall at work and not at home: the name, port, etc. will stay saved but you can toggle the on/off accordingly.

Also, thanks to Greg at the Epicenter for some early testing on this: I don’t have ready access to a proxy server, which is why I’ve never bothered to add this feature… Also, a word on the Pocket version: I’ve since sold my Windows Mobile 2003 device so the best I can test against is a 2002-iPaq and the emulator. If there’s any pocket-specific bugs please give me specifics here on in email and I’ll do what I can to train them up.

  1. I’d have to check to see who has controlling interest on m’soul. Oddly enough people will let you sell it to them, without a title check to see if someone else has ownership rights already. I’ll also have to download the handbook… even though my applications work well enough, the very really conform to all aspects of “logo certification”… ah, the little Geek rebel I am!
