Need Another Reason To Vote Rudy In 2008?
CNN: Religious conservative leader James Dobson will sit out the 2008 presidential election if former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is the Republican presidential nominee, he wrote Thursday in an online column. In a piece published on the conservative Web site WorldNetDaily, Dobson wrote that Giuliani’s support for abortion rights and civil unions for homosexuals, as well as the former mayor’s two divorces, were a deal-breaker for him. “I cannot, and will not, vote for Rudy Giuliani in 2008. It is an irrevocable decision,” he wrote.
Call me crazy, but… um… well. Frankly a condemnation from this mamone means more to me than a vote of support would, considering the issues that have Dobson’s panties in a bunch…
Maybe it’s time we get a mammal in the Big Chair that’s more human than religious zealot or politician?
WM6 Tip: How To Get Your Reminder Sound Back On Dash
I’m not sure if it was T-Mobile, HTC, or Microsoft, but someone missed something with profiles (and given the Home Screen reset, I’m saying T-Mobile). The problem is that if you have reminders set to play sound on your Normal profile and then switch to the Vibrate or Silent profiles, you’d lose your reminder sounds on all profiles. It would still vibrate for you, but no volume. Which I’m sure the majority of my cube-mates have loved since it’s been quieter in the workplace. But even so: it’s a bug.
The bug is a part of the Normal profile file: where Vibrate and Silent turn off the sound, Normal simply never turns it back on. I’ve tried mucking with the Normal.def.prof.xml that is in the \Windows directory, but that seemed to make the phone unhappy… but I found another workaround.
Read on for more – update: it’s been looking like Vista has been persisting the System attribute flag for this file where as XP and 2003 have been losing it. I’ve added two more steps to this list that should help out.

May 15 – No Gas Day?
I’ve gotten a few people that have forwarded emails about how to “boycott” gas on May 15, in an effort to protest high gas prices. Seems the same thing was done on April 15, and someone somewhere thinks that it would make a “statement” to gas companies.
To all of you participating in this: thank you for making the line at my local gas station smaller this morning.

THETUBE
I noticed this “new” network called THETUBE when I was back in Connecticut a couple of weeks ago at my sister and brother-in-law’s house. Basically, it’s what MTV was when MTV started. But with more recognizable music. Which is something MTV lacked for a long while as it ramped up – and something they later lost when they turned into a Real World network. Pissed me off though, because I’m spending almost $200 a month for cable, premium cable, and ‘net access yet was missing this channel.
Channel 116 on Comcast HD in Redmond – I don’t know if it’s a HD broadcast, since it’s not widescreen, but it is 5.1 sound which is all whoo hoo and stuffs – I was hoping it would help me to get some homework done but it looks like I’m beyond help with that…
WM6 Tip: Voice Commander Via Bluetooth Headset!
Earlier this week I upgraded my Dash from Windows Mobile 5 to Windows Mobile 6. The flash went flawlessly and I didn’t have to install as many apps to get going, but I did mourn the fact that while Voice Command 1.6 would let me voice dial, I couldn’t do it from my Bluetooth headset – just from the handset. After some asking around for help, I’ve been handed the following workaround and it works for me!
The only remaining hiccup that I can’t seem to fix is that of Outlook Reminders: they fire visibly and they vibrate but there’s never any sound for the alert. When I get a new email message I get sound – even if I use the same file for reminder alerts, it just won’t fire. An odd yet minor annoyance.

What’s In A Name?
I’m not sure what’s gotten into the Microsoft product name generator, but first Silverlight and now [according to the interwebs the TID is being called] Chatpad? Maybe someone realized that short names that can be tied to the product are better than a four or five [or six] word title that describes the product… I mean I hear Silverlight, I picture the swirly logo. When I hear AppleTV, I picture of a small Mac mini looking thing.
Fact: I don’t know which either product does but I know what the products are. Way better naming than normal, for us. And I like this trend.

The Quest For Shiny
T-Mobile releases a software flash for my phone – the Dash – that would upgrade the thing to Windows Mobile 6. Have you seen WM6? It’s very, very sharp looking. Enough to make me keep on checking the TMo web site every few days for new news on the bits… when they popped late last week I grabbed and even came home early to get the thing updated. I have to say that I find that with each new WM release I have to install less and less extra software to get the thing into a “usable” state. This time especially – I set up a custom home screen, swapped out a couple of vile pink T-Mobile images, and that was it.
And that’s when I noticed that there were no more Voice Tags on the phone… and so begins the complaint.

Last August, Amazon listed the Ambient Stock Orb for sale at $20. It’s a neat little thing, the Orb. Especially at $20. At its MSRP of $150, it’s not all that compelling. I ordered one. A couple of days later, they reported to me that it was a glitch and they cancelled my order. Then they re-listed the thing at $31.99, so I took the time to order it again. Since then, they’ve kept a running delay on the order: each month they push the date out by a month. The most recent ship date was this week but it’s now listed as mid-June.
Scammer? Bait and switch? Out and out fraud? I’d like to think Amazon is better than that, but I don’t know what to make of it now. I mean I ordered eight months ago… I just keep accepting the delays, since it’s not a critical item. And it is being sold at 1/5 of retail. I figure that they’ll eventually cancel the order, if only to save whatever cash they’re burning while tracking the thing – and then I can file a formal complaint: to keep an order active for this long sorta proves that it’s not a pricing error right?
