Oops. This round includes a list management system that works and the proper version stamp. (Imagine my surprise when my own software tells me there’s an update that I don’t know about.)
A wise engineer once summed up a feature list of an application that was about to make its 1.1 release as “Now, with Error Checking.” 2.1 Beta 3 of SharpMT doesn’t have any additional error checking, but it now includes Spell Checking. Continue reading SharpMT and Pocket SharpMT – 2.1 Beta 3→
Ever since I switched to Outlook 2003 I’ve benefitted from a 90% drop in Spam. At least 90%. Might be more but I’m unwilling to do the math. What I do know is that the Junk Mail filter has done a great job with cutting out the stuffs – and I’m not even as bothered by Spam as most people seem to be. True, I do get over 400 messages across a dozen mailboxes that are Spammish in nature each day, but I’d rather get virtual types of ads than getting a dozen phone calls or real junk mail. The funny thing is the Spam that does get through the filter: Continue reading Spam Insight→
Jeter traded to the Red Sox for Kevin Millar and five minor leaguers? That’s what I drove into work today listening to i-95. Ah, the joys of radio. Continue reading Jet-ah?→
First, thank you! Thank you to all of the people that have donated money over the last week or so (and those of you long time readers that donated early on) because the collection hat is getting full – $65 to the happy land of spell checking for everyone. Beyond that, there’s a new beta available of both the desktop version and the Pocket PC version with some miscellaneous additions/fixes… Continue reading SharpMT and Pocket SharpMT – 2.1 Beta 2→
I don’t often share the email that I get from readers from my site, if only because I don’t get much in my mailbox. I get a lot of comments (as you all can see) but it’s seldom that there’s anything non-business related in the Inbox – seldom does not mean never. Below is an email that I got from one particular reader that calls herself “Sista_Respect”. I thought I’d share it with you all because a) my response is ever bit a potential post here on it’s own but b) she has yet to answer my reply, which has pissed me off, so I’ll out her publicly. A couple of goodies this time out, as this will help to keep Pocket SharpMT up to par with SharpMT. Remember that the .NET Compact Framework must be installed on your Pocket PC before using Pocket SharpMT. If you have a Windows Mobile 2003 device you’re all set; if you have a Pocket PC 2002 device, you’ll need to install the Compact Framework before trying Pocket SharpMT.
All sorts of goodies; all of them from user feedback (although I did put a spin on a couple of things here and there) so it should please a few people. There is one huge upgrade to the install process – huge in possible impact – because it now checks to see if version 1.1 of the .NET Framework is installed before letting SharpMT install itself. Please let me know if this causes a problem, i.e. if it tells you the Framework is missing even though you know it is installed. Continue reading SharpMT – 2.1 Beta 1→
I noticed tonight that even though I don’t have Windows Messenger active that msmsgr.exe was showing up in my Task Manager when I ran Outlook Express. I checked the OE settings: “log into messenger automatically” was not selected. I uninstalled Windows Messenger from Add/Remove Windows Components but it still ran when OE launched. I remembered that I got an update to version 4.7 from Windows Update but I didn’t see that listed in the uninstall list. I got rid of it though… how? Every now and again I have to pause and marvel at how the Internet has changed the subtleties of life. I’m no stranger to see an “online community” (having grown up on modem connections) yet I sometimes find myself in awe of the neatness that is the ‘net. Joi Ito has posted a QuickTime movie of two maiko dancing, while a geiko played a shamisen. I find it simply amazing that within a few minutes I can download a movie that a guy made and watch something that I would have had to fly to Kyoto (Japan) to see [assuming that I could even get into an ochaya (tea house) in the first place which I doubt]. I just seem to find that to be somehow… incredible.
Classic – from JimFormation: “That girl’s ugly,” said my six-year-old son as he looked up from his handheld video game and saw Ed Bradley interviewing Michael Jackson.
I can empathize with Rory on his Christmas Eve of 1999. Not from a bad Christmas Eve point of view – and I’ve never been to France – but in the “universe is out to get me” and “God has a sense of humour because he put me on this planet” sort of way. [Still locked out – 67 minutes and counting – if no one shows by 9:30, I’m going back home!]
An unforeseen Christmas gift was dropped in my lap today and I’m absolutely giddy about it: I didn’t come out of a sixth gear the entire length of my commute on i-95 this morning! You have to understand – a good commute most mornings is one where I don’t have to shift back into first and it takes less than an hour to get to work. To get to work in under a half an hour, not hit any lights, nor traffic, and stay in sixth is a divine act – most people too the week off, I’m guessing but this is divine enough for me. Of course, I got to the office before everyone else (so I can’t get in) and I forgot to turn my PC at home on this morning (so I won’t have access to most of my email all day) but I’m still basking in the post-commute euphoric glow. (And it also proves that I’m correct: remove every third driver on the road and there will be less problems every morning!)
