For the last twenty years or so, Comdex has been held during the third week of November. Ordinarily I’d be pining for a reason or scrambling for a ticket to get to the conference. It is, after all, Comdex! That’s about a Geek as apple pie is American. Except that this year, there’s no Comdex being held. They say they are taking a year off: they cite competition from CTIA and CES and a general slow down in the technology field… either way, I reckon the big question is can there be an AdultDex without a Comdex?

I remember when CompUSA hosted a “midnight madness” for IE4. I stopped by my local place and there were about a dozen Geeks milling around for a free T-shirt and CD. I was later in those days – still trying to maintain a college-esque life – so what the hell, right? For Halo 2, I’d simply call it “madness”. Screw the midnight. I stopped by my local EB Games tonight and there are already forty people in front of the store. At 6:30. Forty people. Some women, too, which has got to be a milestone for a video game release. A bunch of them playing in a mini-tournament in split screens, but there were skateboards, backpacks, and a couple of computer totes/briefcases marking their place in line. I took the chance to pre-order a copy there and will probably pick it up at 12:30 or even tomorrow… madness!
One last bit on the election, mostly because of people’s reaction to Kerry losing… I’ve seen “better get ready for a Draft,” “we need a Civil War!” and “Christianity will be the new official religion”. I’ve seen people taunting others with the blue states having joined Canada and the rest of the US labeled as Jesus land. Does that mean Kerry was French-Canadian? I don’t get it. On this, the eve of Election Day 2004 – a prequel to a recount, as Comedy Central puts it – I sift through the voter’s guide that my state has so thoughtfully sent to me – trying to find where I have to go to vote – and I realize that I have but one question on my mind: will the politicians finally shut the fuck up?! I do hope so. Then again, I also hope that if Florida can’t figure out how to vote this year that they are expelled from the Union and forced to form their own nation with Quebec, or something… I guess that’s just too much to hope for.
Ya know, it wasn’t until tonight that I realized that I never finished GTA:VC (Vice City). I know I forgot about it for almost eight months at one point (the saved game had a time stamp) after I discovered Halo and I sorta left the game on a shelf… In spite of that, it’s because of GTA3 that I got a PlayStation2 (just like Halo was why I got an Xbox), so it should come as no surprise that I was out at Fred Meyer at 7am today, asking about GTA:SA… first impression is “Um, why do people have a ten on their hats?” Continue reading GTA: San Andreas→
So now that the Sox are going to the World Series, I’ve been hearing a lot of support from casual baseball fans. It’s been over 15 years since both teams have been to the World Series, but since Boston hasn’t won since 1918, they seem to have won the “we only watch the championship” type fan. I expect this… historically, I haven’t watch much of the NFL’s regular season, so I usually cheer for the “underdog” in the playoffs, so I’m not unfamiliar with the sentiment. I don’t understand spammers… they’ve gotta be dumber than dirt, and I mean that in the worst possible way. I purposely turned off HTML tags for my comments on this site, so you can’t put in a URL there. And ever since I was forced to update MT to 2.661, my comments haven’t worked properly: email addresses are posted fine, but URL’s are not. I was thrilled at this side effect: now there was no way to link to another site! I figure that this would mean that spammers wouldn’t bother with my Blog because none of their information would be displayed, right?
150 deleted comments later and I’m convinced we print “Do Not Eat” on packaging material for the people that are as dumb as these spammers.
