Bit of Advice to Local Residents
The other day I happened to notice that my nifty desk clock had stopped running. Ah, no worries – there’s a Movado store over at Bellevue Place Mall and that’s like ten minute from work… I’ll stop over there during lunch, I think. I went there taking side roads and encountered an accident, a dead traffic light (due to a power outage) and extreme lunch time traffic. I came back via i-405 and 520 and encountered a number of nasty traffic snags (since it rained for the first time in seven days) and a lack of speed from fellow drivers. All in all, it took me almost two hours to make this trip and the Movado guys replaced the battery in under ten minutes. The funny part? When I told the locals back at the office I hear “That mall? On a Friday? During lunch? Yeah, that sounds about right…” Grr.
Never again, and you shouldn’t try it either!
Bleh, Says the Phone Shopper
Bleh. I’ll say it again: Bleh! I spent the majority of the morning shuffling between Best Buy and AT&T Wireless stores, checking out the latest models of Windows Mobile based phone and I came home empty handed. How could that have happened you ask? Technology hates me!

Strangeness in Sports
Odd. The Seattle Storm is playing the Connecticut Sun in the WNBA finals. For me, it’s a personal clash between past and present. What even stranger for me is seeing old UCONN female players playing for the local team and that isn’t the University of Connecticut. And yes, the Sun’s arena is between the Casino of the Earth and Casino of the Air at Mohegan Sun – as some of the KONG reporters were guessing at, on air. I wonder who I’m supposed to route for, in that match up…
Incidentally, the Seahawks and the Patriots are currently sporting a 3-0 record after a bye week, in the NFL… that’s an easy choice though: ‘hawks, hands down… I want no happy sports fans in Boston!
“Déjà Vu, All Over Again”
The ALCS cometh… Boston versus New York, for the pennant, once more. To quote former Yankee Yogi Berra: “It’s like déjà vu, all over again.”
The “World Series of the Northeast” begins this week – at least I don’t have to lose any sleep to see the bottom of the ninth inning for each prime time game, this year. Hurray for the PDT!
Update: How To Disable Windows Messenger
A while ago I posted a few registry hacks that would prevent Windows Messenger from running. I opt to run MSN IM since it has more consumer related features, and other people don’t want to run it at all, yet for a few reasons, most people can’t seem to turn it off entirely! Well, I was over at BigBlueBall the other day and found a new tool – I figure it’s simply a UI that manages the registry keys – which is similar to what I do with SharpKeys – and since I got a lot of feedback on the original post, I thought I’d share the wealth! Today, I’m Being Tested
It’s 7:51am on a Thursday morning. On a normal Thursday morning, I’d be at my desk, looking through some test results that ran during the overnight, but today is not a normal Thursday morning. At the moment, I’m sitting in a Tully’s in the Eastgate section of Bellevue, all types of pissed off, and it’s not my fault that I’m pissed off… but it will be the first true test of my self control in a non-east coast setting.

Why Are Slot Machines Taboo?
I’ve seen two ads campaigns recently, both of them concerning proposition I-892, which is up for consideration this November. One side says “lower property taxes – vote Yes on I-892”; the other I’ve mostly seen on TV, and it shows the expansion of slot machines across three WA counties, including King County, much like the virus spread on the map of the US in “Outbreak”. In CT there was an endless, and loud, debate on slot machines: people tried to get them in non-casino venues, like sports bars and Jai-Alai arenas, but they never succeed. What the hell is wrong with people, when it comes to slot machines?

MoDaCo has had this for a bit – it’s supplied by MessageCast and is free to Blogs – I’ve found it handy… when something new comes in, I get a popup alert on IM. When I heard it was free, I said “neat,” and added it here. So look for this image

Jack Daniels Light?
Sorta. This morning, I heard on the Stern show that Jack Daniels has been lowered in proof from 86 to 80 and without any fanfare about the change. The cast speculated as to why they might do this – remeber the Coke II debacle? don’t mess with a winning drink – and the thought was “for political correctness” (we make you less drunk). Would be a noble, if asinine, reason, but I think it’s because JD wants to expand its market. I recently learned in Canada that some bars have a ceiling for the proof of alcohol they can serve. That ceiling, in Vancouver anyway, is 80 proof which would have barred JD. Since the 6 proof drop won’t be noticed by most mouths, why not do it? I think it’s a wise move on their part.

Someone emailed towards the end of last week, wondering why I didn’t jump all over two particular topics, one of which was the now “very visible” CBS news reporting debacle… I mean, look at the situation: CBS jumps on a story that will trash a would-be President without properly checking its facts full, and now they look foolish. Very foolish. In all honesty, I was sorta preoccupied last week because of a planned trip up to Vancouver and then I spent a full 48 hours of non-computer time.
