Rare statement warning (and I’ll deny it if anyone ever quotes it back to me) but I have to say it: I have a bit of respect for marketing people that are forced to rely on slides for their livelihood. It’s not PowerPoint’s fault because I’ve got nothing against the application. I’m just so sick to death of making slides at the moment that I never want to see one again – trust me, I would even hate Keynote by now. And if one more piece of text randomly tries to FlyIn at me, without my telling it to, I’m tossing the ThinkPad into Starbucks’ sink.

I’ve had gift cards collecting on my kitchen counter for the over a year now. I love the little buggers – hard plastic works out so much better than the old fashioned paper gift certificates (which are easily destroyed). I usually get a bunch of gift cards over the holiday season and I normally spend the first two months of a new year debating on what to buy. Last year I got too busy with work to think about it, which is why I had a surplus that included a mall-based card, a Filene’s card, and an AmEx-certificate. Today I went shopping for slippers.

Atkins Friendly Blog
OK, so finally people have begun to realize that carbohydrates are key to adding fat to their bodies. Every where I look these days I see “carb-blocker” pills and “Atkins Diet Friendly” menus and wonder where the hell has everyone been for the last ten years?! This “carbs-are-evil” mantra that everyone is chanting is not a new idea – I just wonder how they sold the mass populous on it lately because I’d love to corrupt that marketing machine and use it for my own nefarious efforts.

SharpMT – 2.2 Beta 3
After a number of sleepless nights (and foggy days) a new beta is ready. Main thing for this release is that SharpMT will only allow one instance of itself to run at a time now. The run-as-differnt-user for multiple blog support “hack” still works, though; only one instance can run per user. What this means is that if SharpMT is already running and your double click on an SMT draft or send data to SharpMT from an RSS Aggregator via the plug-in, it will open in a new tab in the already running window.

SharpMT – 2.2 Beta 1
The major feature for this release will be integration with major RSS Aggregator applications. If you don’t know what an RSS Aggregator is, then you won’t much care about integration with one. If you do, then you might be interested in seeing what this integration will get you. There’s also a minor bug fix for people that have been using more than one Text Formatting filters and the Preview tab.

Congratulations to Papa Steve and Mum Liz and Tyler Jacob! Both parents and bambino neonato are doing well, although rather tired after their delivery experience… anyone else see a software development parallel? Seeing it myself, it might be an indication that I may need more down time in my life. And Tyler, you best not be reading this here site for at least another 17 years from now… well at maybe if you had permission from both your parents and we both know they’re too smart to give it to you, so seeya in a couple of decades. [too many Randy-isms can be very dangerous to the young, after all]

IE Scrolling Bug: Fixed!
That very, very annoying scrolling bug that was introduced with a IE Service Pack from November has finally been fixed with the “Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB832894)” that showed up on Windows Update today! [insert Snoopy-esque happy dance here]
SharpKeys 1.0 – Beta 3/Release Candidate 1
Two “enhancements” for this release, but nothing too major. Consequently, this is Release Candidate 1.
For those of you that are new to my site and my software projects, I treat my projects like “real” applications. When I get a new set of features that I want to work on, I start coding them. When an application gets to be somewhat stable, I make it available to the public – mostly for feedback and testing – for a couple of quick beta cycles. From there, once the application becomes stable and “feature complete” I kick it out the door as “released” and consider it to be done. Of course, some time after that, the cycle usually begins again with a new set of features.

Keyboard Remapping: Part III – SharpKeys
Given “part II” of this Keyboard Remapping bit, it became obvious to me that I would be spending more and more time hacking the Registry, just to remap keys, especially with my ThinkPad. Even though IBM gave me an application to change keys, and Microsoft gave me IntelliType utilities, both meant that drivers would have to be loaded, and that sorta irked me for some reasons… call it a throw back to the days of TSR programs, but I get “itchy feet” when I have to leave unnecessary drivers loaded.
