Email Consolidation

*sigh* I’ve resorted to asking the LazyWeb(tm) mob for info!

I’ve had one email address at one domain for over 12 years now. I’ve got three Hotmail Windows Live Mail accounts. I’ve got a few other email addy’s now that I’m a DreamHost customer. While I have all of them streaming into one Outlook Inbox, I’d really like to retire the WLM accounts and simply forward any incoming mail to different POP3 account…

Anyone know if this is possible? Without running a client on a machine to manually forward the email… that would be too lame to do.

This space is leased by Joost. Well, not really by Joost – it’s actually on loan on behalf of a co-worker that wants to be on the Joost beta… which needs an invite from someone that’s already a member… so she asked me to ask you to invite me so I could invite her. Whatever that means.

The question now is: does anyone have an invite for Joost?

Welcome Back

I gladly say Welcome Back to television. 24 is in it’s new season (and is so much better to watch via DVR than with commercials!) and is already as good as I want it to be. Rome has returned as well – I didn’t expect a second season, because I thought it was a mini-series, not a series – and it’s welcomed as well. Both are living up to my expectations. Especially now that football is “over” for me this seasons… pitchers and catchers don’t report for at least a month. By the time Rome is over, the Sopranos will kick off their last season.

I’m going to Vegas in the Spring – that’s almost more of a “welcome home” than a “welcome back” – and the All Star Game is returning to Yankee Stadium in 2008 for the first time in I can’t remember when… and it’s certainly the last time it will be welcomed to that home before the old stadium is retired – the new stadium is slated to open in 2009.

Wonder if Hallmark has a card for all of that in one that I could send to myself…

ZOMG. I saw something the other day on cable that made me raise an eyebrow… after a movie ended on cable, they ran the credits like always. I was working on homework so I was slow grabbing the remote. After the credits ran, they ran a second time… in Spanish. Then tonight I had on another movie… and discovered the same thing happened. First English, then Spanish.

What the hell is going on now?

Simple Problem – Simple Solution

MSNBC: Seventeen-year-old Patrick Agin often spends a week whittling a single arrow, and he’s learning to make chain mail armor by hand. So when it came time to submit a senior yearbook photo, he selected a snapshot of himself wearing chain mail and slinging a prop sword over his shoulder. Portsmouth High School rejected the photo, citing a “zero tolerance policy” for weapons, and Agin and his family sued, claiming the school was violating his right to free speech.

Ya know – if they got the kid laid, this whole medieval hobby would simply fall by the wayside.

After working in an office type environment for the last 14 years or so, I consider myself a veteran of the business world. True some of business only offered what could loosely be called an office. Symantec comes to mind, since my first two “offices” were… inventive: the first was a space walled off by bookcases and the second consisted of a space centered in a hallway, walled off by portable, free-standing half-cube walls. There were other places that had other interesting features, like an open office area that didn’t have PC’s for everyone, a rack of 14 PC’s next to my desk, or even a large room where 8 people shared the area.

And then one day you’re in a meeting where you say, “Uhhh, what just happened?”

Note To Self: Permissions Count On Vista

For decades I’ve kept a set of “tweaks” in my head that I make to all of my machines, just after I install an OS. This includes moving certain “important” directories around my hard drive because I don’t like digging through multiple layers of directories to get to things. Somethings should be right off the root of the drive, in my opinion.

Mental note to self: permissions on these “special” directories become very, very important on Vista.

In a nutshell… iTV is right around the corner as Apple TV – is to iTunes what the 360 is to Media Center with 10GB more on the HDD. In fact, I don’t think it can download from iTunes directly – like the 360 can – but it does stream from iTunes directly…

The iPhone is live and looks pretty slick, but I refuse to go ga-ga over it until I see it in person which won’t be until June unless Cingular fucks it up. I like the spirit behind the design. If I can’t sync over the air, it’s a deal breaker. The multi-finger thingy has promise but historically I haven’t like touchscreens due to fingerprints, grease and icky experiences. Love the idea of a sensor that turns off the touchscreen; should help with taps in the pocket. Dig on the idea of widgets on the phone.

If it was a proper iPod – meaning no phone and no wireless – at $250, I’d be ordering it now and selling my PSP. The PSP? 4GB Memory Stick Duo is like $400. How can you justify a memory accessory that is more than the damned device?! Anyway…

Other things of interest: no Core Duo 2 in the Mac mini, no mention of Leopard [should be called a slip but never will me], no mention of iLife/iWork [historically a ship, but won’t be called that] and no music only players.

At least my portfolio is glowing green for a change!

I guess I gave him more credit than I should have: I thought he’d have more class than likes to show at these conferences.

Hard Being A Woman

It’s harding being a woman on Zack’s island.

I played Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 from start to finish, as Kasumi. I didn’t win one game of volleyball, I got my ass bruised from the butt-bumping game, I fell in the water 57 times during the pool hopping, lost several hundreds of thousands of Zack-Dollars, I had at least a dozen gifts re-gifted/returned to me, and I lost my only friend after seven days on the island. And not one damned Achivement point – in spite of the endless bouncing, I feel so…

Unsatisfied.

CES Data Overload… IPTV coming to the 360. Live Anywhere demo’d in the wild – nice job Uno! Rumors about Geometry Wars moving to the PC… More Vista demos… Not to mention the home server bit. Aiiiiigh.

Makes me wonder why MacWorld runs on the same week as CES… guess there’s more than enough analog bandwidth to go around, but yeesh – I’m already uber-distracted.

Neat, Yet Useless

Have you seen the Sony eBook Reader? The local Borders has had one on display for a while… I think I’m the only one to have noticed it, though. I have to say, it’s a pretty slick device. Great screen, looks just like a piece of paper, and a nice size device. First thing from Sony to support a media format in addition to MS/MS Duo in… what, years? Maybe a decade. The problem? Content.

Not that putting blogs on it isn’t neat… it would be really cool to do all of the data updates wirelessly, but that is out of the scope of a typical e-book reader, IMHO. Personally, I’d love to carry just this on a flight or to class, rather than lugging around a book. Add to that the ability to search in real time, and it’s an incredible tool. The problem is content: publishers have a bigger bug up their ass about electornic distrubtion than Hollywood or the RIAA does – that’s one huge bug but it’s still there. Well that, and if yer battery dies mid-flight or mid-class, yer screwed, but I could even live with that…

Consequently, it’s a totally useless but well designed and well conceived device.

Blogging Host: Slip!

If you can see this, congratulations: your ISP is pretty fast at picking up DNS changes.

You see, as much as I enjoyed the maintenance free-hosting of my blog on TypePad, they screwed me one time too many with some of their “internal” crap. Like having a server-based XML-RPC feature broken for just about half a year. And then preventing thousands of users from leaving comments on my blog – not to mention all TypePad-hosted blogs – with an overagressive black listing system. When pressed on that – and when I requested a personal whitelist to minimize the damage – I was told “we’re working on it, but it’s for your best interest”. Right. Having everyone you work with be unable to leave comments for you is for my best interest. Nothing against Six Apart – I’m still using MovableType – but I’ve had enough of that crap… so I moved over to DreamHost and installed MT on my own there.

Y’all shouldn’t notice a change – if you do please let me know! – but I’m a happier mammal, in spite of taking most of Saturday to move it. In fact, I think I want some dinner…
