Word of the Year [2007]

Yahoo! News: “w00t,” a hybrid of letters and numbers used by gamers as an exclamation of happiness or triumph, topped all other terms in the Springfield-based dictionary publisher’s online poll for the word that best sums up 2007. For more, see the definition. And props to Chuck for the link – I would have hated to miss this one.

Finally, I can stop explaining the meaning of it to analog people. After, it looks like I’ve used it 419 times on this blog alone, dating all the way back to 2003… this post being one of my more favorites.

Of course, now that it is “mainstream” it’ll probably get over used and die before the end of the year…

Violent, fat stacks of cash, and good in bed

New In The Company Store

I was in our company store the other day and busted out laughing.

You see, just after Thanksgiving last year a new T-Shirt appeared at the store. The front simply says “geek.” in white on black. The back has a “witty” definition (that I could do without) and Microsoft on the sleeve. I bought one the first day I saw it. The shirt has sold extremely well, judging by how often I’ve seen them around campus and the neighboring towns.

Makes sense then that the company would building on the success of this T-Shirt. There’s a few new ones: “geeks rule” is one. “The first rule about the computer club is to not talk about the computer club!” is another. There was one in binary and hex but I didn’t bother to figure out the ASCII – I think it was another “geeks rule”. The last one was simple and funny enough to buy for someone that would appreciate it:

“geeks do it in front of Windows”

Renee’n’Kenny?

I didn’t know where to file it, frankly, but it’s a pity Renee Zellweger is now married… And to Kenny Chesney of all people? I guess it works. It’s funny cuz like you hear about Pitt and Jolie, a bunch of people are all “awww mannnn! S/he hooked up with someone?!” but for these two it most people give it a “huh?”. Like mere mortals would have a shot at Pitt or Jolie. At least with Chesney or Zellweger, frankly, they seem like normal people. In fact, I know that most of eastern Tennessee has to be reeling in shock from this… and a few people on Long Island are probably heart broken over Renee.

There might have been a point to this but three phone calls, four emails and two IM’s later, I seem to have misplaced it. Hah.

w00t!

And again, Christopher Anthony is the Blog, but this time, it’s a little different. He’s gone off and gotten a fist full of Windows OS and application discs and has decided to experience Windows first hand, since he hasn’t worked with it very much. He’s also turned on the commenting feature on his site, and from what I’ve seen, he’s getting some good feedback through his site already.
