Left Behind: Glorious Appearing

Been a long while since I’ve posted about a particular book, but this one seems worth posting about. I’ve been reading the Left Behind series for a long, long while. I discovered the book series some time in late 1999 and at that moment, there were four books available, and the plan was that there would be twelve books to complete the entire season. I was in a bookstore (go figure) and they had all four paperbacks in the same area, so I picked up book one (Left Behind) and was hooked relatively quickly… I know what you’re thinking: a Geek reading about the religious scripted end of the world?

Oi…

Post Gazette: State police have charged a 15-year-old Latrobe girl with child pornography for taking photos of herself and posting them on the Internet. Police said the girl, whose identity they withheld, photographed herself in various states of undress and performing a variety of sexual acts. She then sent the photos to people she met in chat rooms. A police report did not say how police learned about the girl. They found dozens of pictures of her on her computer. She has been charged with sexual abuse of children, possession of child pornography and dissemination of child pornography. Police said they are trying to identify all the people who receive photos from the girl.

Ew. I mean, there’s a bit of talent of getting of arrested for exploiting yourself, but still… Ew.

And again, Christopher Anthony is the Blog, but this time, it’s a little different. He’s gone off and gotten a fist full of Windows OS and application discs and has decided to experience Windows first hand, since he hasn’t worked with it very much. He’s also turned on the commenting feature on his site, and from what I’ve seen, he’s getting some good feedback through his site already.

April Fools Abound

Poor Steve got zapped twice: first by a long-shot hope of a pricing point for the Motorola MPx and then by Howard Stern not being on the airwaves, which may or may not have been a joke, give Howie’s FCC problems lately. To make matters worse, he got attacked by his Starbucks non-gripping lid and for this I have a huge amount of empathy. Whenever I get a vanilla latte, mocha latte, toffee nut latte, or a caramel macchiato, I have to nick one of those silly bag labels to cover the hole, to save me and my cars from a sticky mess. For some reason, these three drinks explode through the drinking hole in the lid, once they leave the store…

What’s worse is that Dunkin’ Donuts has taken the prise for Most Usable Coffee lid, and I don’t think anyone in Seattle is aware that they’ve been surpassed in this very important race.

MTClient

I know I probably freak people out when I talk about titles that are in “competition” to my own software, but I’ve always been more about the technology than I am about pissing contest for a bigger marketshare of freeware. Having said that, there’s a new player in the MT-specific offline Blog writing arena: MTClient. I found out about this new one through Stupid Evil Bastard who has toyed with SharpMT before but wasn’t pleased about all aspects of it, before coming to find MTClient…

Sorry: No dasBlog Support

From time to time I take a few minutes to troll around Technorati.com to keep an eye on who might be linking to my site, or more specifically, the SharpMT pages. Last week I found IdiotProof.org who tried to use Pocket SharpMT to post to his dasBlog hosted server and it failed on him. A little while back, I made a couple of changes that made my server calls more XML-RPC compliant; that request came in from someone using dasBlog, and since I never heard back, I had hoped it worked. It didn’t. And because of some incompatibilities, I don’t see dasBlog support in the future of SharpMT…

Last Night of Bar Smoking

I wrote about this a little while ago, but it’s finally hitting the news and bar promotion calendars: heard that a number of bars were planning a “pre-smoking ban” even tonight, because as of April 1, smoking is banned in all public restaurants and bars in Connecticut. I’ve also been noticing a lot of comments from smokers on the original post… I can empathize with you, but your arguments aren’t helping you win the fight which only hurts you in the long run.

In related news, Ireland – home to endless pints of a Guinness – has started a similar ban on smoking in their pubs… true story. New York City night life now ends at 6pm because of the loss of business due to smoking bans… false story (and often the root of failed attempts to argue this little bit of controversy.)

You Can’t Call it Road Rage

More like Road Bewilderment, I think. See, I went to pick up my mail. This can be a dangerous thing because the parking lot acts as a host to a driving free for all. Just getting in and out of there with car and body intact is the mark of a good day. The fact that my replacement hard drive was waiting for me in the UPS Store is a bonus! When I tried to leave, that’s when I observed a good many things.

What is “digital pity” exactly? It’s a place that will host commentary for statements like this: “There are several people who have asked me about how Linux compares to Longhorn. I have decided to answer those questions here.”

I have to pity people that can make sweeping declarations for technology that is yet available – and probably won’t be for at least 18-24 months or more – because it defies all logic.

Ah, Well, it’s Time.

Christopher Anthony must have even more free time on his hands than I do, which is a sad state to live in. How can I say that? He actually took the time to rebut my analysis of his website, although he just changed the word order of his original arguments to combat my points. How many flaws are in his argument? Quite a few, but I’m unwilling to clutter my Blog to debate him – would the punk actually allow for comments on his site, I would, but he seems a little skiddish – so my rule of thumb is to wait until he posts something worth responding to.

And in spite of that, I have noticed some key quotes from our whipping boy…

Baseball in Tokyo

“What the hell was that?” said the first three Yomiuri Giants hitters, as Contreras floats a sinker ball by each one of them. He got out of the first inning using only ten pitches.

“What the hell is that?” says the Yankees’ line up, as the “tacky” Giants baseball [seems every team has their own ball in Japan, instead of one standard MLB-type ball – Giants got to use their ball when on defense; the Yankees used an MLB ball when in the field] is passed around the dugout between innings. Yogi looked at it a bit befuddled, like it was some kind of rubberized and hardened super ball.

“Oh fuck,” says the Yomiuri Giants’ pitcher, as Matsui-sama launches a home run into center field for his first at bat, in the second inning, while the home crowd chanted “Hit a Home Run, Matsui”.

Piece of (Worthless) Work, Part II

Christopher Anthony: “Less than 5 minutes online getting critical updates I got three viruses, I hosed the drive and now I use Linux totally.”

Seems the dipshit lost his computer to a power surge and bought a new IBM PC that came pre-loaded with Windows 2000. What I find to be ironic is that he’s convinced he downloaded three viruses from Windows update. How can he know he has a virus if he hasn’t installed an AV package yet? And by the way… what about AV packages? Are they bad because they require a download from time to time? Nevermind that most commercial Linux versions also have an update process that pings as much as Windows on a first time install…

How can you respect a fuckwit that lost his computer to a power surge anyway? How smart can he be, if he doesn’t use a surge protector?

Piece of (Worthless) Work

Christopher Anthony: I decided to start this blog as a way to keep up with the rise of Linux and the downfall of Microsoft and Windows. Due to recent happennings in the Europe, Microsoft appears to be losing its dominace on the desktop. Also due to their illegal funding of the SCO group the SEC will close them down in America and Linux is the only real alternative to Windows. [and yes, those misspellings are part of his post]

You know this kid, right? The “Blind and Passionate Moron”? He used to bother Rory with anti-Microsoft comments. He’s also the type of zealot that WordSoup has a problem with. Personally I think he’s the type of person that would whine to a teacher that someone disagreed with him during recess… what a buffoon… ordinarily I wouldn’t bother to pick on someone that is this confused (I don’t like to kick a man when he’s down) but this guy needs a beating with a bamboo cane.

SharpMT and Pocket SharpMT 2.4 – Beta 1

And here’s another “minor”, yet massively requested update, and it’s been added to the desktop and pocket version: HTML encoding. Sadly this doesn’t seem to work for all language, but it will enable me to support non-English Latin-based languages. For more information, click more, to read the rest of this post.
